Our Midwives

Katalin Markgraf
I am originally from Hungary, but completed my Midwifery Degree in the United Kingdom in 2000 where I worked for a few years after graduation in a very busy high-risk maternity hospital. I came to New Zealand in 2003 with my husband and two children and now I feel completely at home in this country and in Christchurch. I worked in Auckland as an LMC for 2 years before moving to Timaru where I worked as an LMC again, for 18 months. I have been working in Christchurch for the past 3 years as an independent midwife. Since I can remember I have wanted to be a midwife, to be around babies and the miracle of birth .I still can’t believe that I am living the dream I had as a child and I feel very lucky and priviledged that people let me into their lives during their journey into parenthood. I love art, films, and spend my spare time painting and making quirky creatures and hand bags. I am also a silversmith so I am often busy making silver jewellery. I live with my gorgeous husband and I have two beautiful children I am endlessly proud of! Three slightly strange dogs and a bossy cat complete my family.
Christine Thompson
I was Born and raised in Surrey, England. I completed my Midwifery Degree in 2005, whilst working in a busy multi-cultural university hospital delivering over 6000 babies per year. In 2006 I assisted in developing and running a birth centre in conjunction with 5 other midwives and developed a great deal of experience in ‘normal’ childbirth and woman centered care. I moved to Christchurch with my 3 teenage children in 2007 and worked in Christchurch Women’s Labour Suite for 10 months before moving into independent practice. I believe this is the role in which I trained for; it is the ultimate in job satisfaction and allows me to demonstrate my love of people from all walks of life. When I landed in Christchurch for the first time, I immediately knew that this was the place for me, it is a beautiful city and I feel very lucky to live here. I love music and really enjoy dancing; I find both extremely relaxing and up-lifting of the mind, body and soul. I have two extremely beautiful cats and one naughty dog who keeps me busy in my spare time.
